I am going to use this for receiving donations. Is there a way to let someone to enter a donation amount the choose?
Otherwise, I guess I could use a dropdown menu with giving choices.

A shopping cart is not ideal for receiving donations.
You can try one of the following plugins:

I am also going to use the shopping cart where people can buy things as a donation... ie a water filter for a family... sponsor a child's school.... buy a food basket for a family... does your estore solution allow me to offer a fill in the blank amount for a donation.

You _could_ do a donation like thing by putting a product or a few, which is called "donation" and in different amounts.
Though - my customer would really like a non fixed value for the "product" price for the Donation product. Is that really not possible with eStore? I would like to keep the donation in the same cart than the products that have been chosen - if the customer would like to both donate and buy some goods from the shop, and pay at once.

Hi Unfortunately there is no way to do a fill in amount with the eStore plugin. The idea of a donation type product would be a good way to allow your customers to buy some items and also send a donation with in the same cart.
