Yes, but that is quite annoying to a customer who wants, for instance, to purchase 5 separate 30-day access passes to streaming video. They would have to become a member 5 times, etc.

You are right, I thought maybe you were charging for length of access and not for any particular videos.
Right now, the encrypted link duration and number of times used is a global setting. I guess, the proper way to approach this would be to somehow (in a future version of eStore) make the link duration and number of clicks part of the product database, with the global setting as a default.

When you want to sell access to content for different duration to different users it indicates that you need to go down the path of using a membership/user management plugin. eStore will only be able to do so much without the help of a user management plugin for the functionality you are after.

I also run eMember. But it seems really over-the-top to make a one-time (one-product) customer become a member for each product. Right?

eMember's "Enable Secondary Membership" feature can come in handy as your members can have multiple levels in their profile that gives them access to all the levels they purchase but yeah I agree with you. We are looking to add a feature in eMember that lets you sell access to an individual post or page (no need to create a membership level for it).
The alternative is to change eStore so it doesn't remove the APR cookie when the customer closes the browser but that can introduce a potential security risk as stated by wzp.
