The "add custom field" form requires a display number, and the field displays. I want to add a custom field that I can modify in admin, but not display on the registration form. Is there a way to do this? It seems like something others might have had a need for.
    Thanks.

No, there is no way to do that. You can maybe add an optional custom field and say something like (admin use only). That way your users shouldn't fill anything in that field.
