I am just getting rolling and have a pretty tight timeframe to get rolling in. I came across this post and it seems to be regarding a similar problem that I am having. I've gone through the various to-do lists for troubleshooting and hit a wall when I come to the IPN simulator. I receive the message "IPN delivery failed. HTTP error code 403: Forbidden"

Anyway, my client is also hosting their site at GoDaddy and I'm wondering if anything was learned from prologic77's experience.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

When PayPal can't deliver the IPN to your server resulting in the following error then there is nothing you can do unless your server fixes the issue:

"IPN delivery failed. HTTP error code 403: Forbidden"

Basically the server is rejecting the IPN so unless that gets resolved PayPal is not going to be able to deliver the IPN.

Bah! Sorry, just figured it out... it was that Bad Behavior plugin that you mentioned earlier in this post. Thanks!

I'm fighting the same issue (godaddy client). Just to avoid misunderstandings:

The only thing I gave WP eStore to interact with Paypal was my Paypal email adress, stored in the payment getaway settings.

But IPN seems to be something different. Paypal requires to enter this as an URL in its own settings.

    How to deal?

    Add:

In my case it's definitely not the plug-in-problem (I've deactivated them all). GoDaddy should also not be to blame.

    Helpless!

Any ecommerce plugin that uses PayPal's IPN feature can only work if PayPal can send IPN to your server. Only your hosting provider can tell you why PayPal is failing to send the IPN to this server (it doesn't have this problem sending to other servers).

You can completely deactivate eStore while you try to figure out why PayPal can't communicate with your server. Try sending a fake IPN message from PayPal's server to your home page using the PayPal's sandbox tools and you will see the same error.

This article will help if you are not familiar with PayPal sandbox:

    Ok, will check it out.
But again: Do I have to insert any IPN URL in Paypal settings in addition to my Paypal Email adress, which I stored in WP eStore settings?

It really doesn't matter. When eStore submits all the product information to PayPal, It will tell PayPal where to send the IPN.

    Hi there,

it's me again and I'm getting mad: After reinstalling WPeStore in another directory it isn't working again. For several days I'm now oscillate between Paypal and GoDaddy and business stalls!

Obviously Paypal is blocked from sending it's IPN to my system, located
    right there:

    http://www.you-can-fight.com/service/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/paypal.php

I've just checked it out using Paypal's sandbox tool an got the message:

IPN delivery failed. Unable to connect to the specified URL. Please verify
    the URL and try again.

No doubt thtat the URL is totally right. All other sources of error have
    been checked.

Same problem while testing this URL:

    http://www.you-can-fight.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/paypal.php

    This is what Paypal says:

We got a HTTP Response 408. That means, they we not get a HTTP Response Code from the server within the given time frame.

    This is what GoDaddy says:

When I go to the provided URL, I am getting the error message "Debug is enabled. Check the ipn_handle_debug.log file for debug output." This is not indication that the server is timing out. In order to further troubleshoot this issue, we would need the specific URL where this issue is occurring and the steps that we can take to duplicate the issue.

This is what my ipn_handle_debug.log says:

    [03/23/2011 8:36 AM] - Advisory : Log file reset.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

[03/24/2011 2:48 AM] - SUCCESS :This debug line was generated because you entered the URL of the ipn handling script in the browser.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    CAN PLEASE ANYONE HELP ME?

Hi Chris, there is nothing we can do from eStore's side. Unless PayPal can deliver the IPN to your server the plugin cannot do anything. Godaddy is well known for this PayPal IPN issue on some of their shared hosting servers for a while now (looks like you are stuck in one of those servers). Just search for the following on Google and you will find it out yourself:

PayPal ipn timeout issue on godaddy

    Checkout this thread on PayPal:
    https://www.x.com/message/121905

The person who is replying to you from Godaddy doesn't have the proper technical knowledge to understand what a 408 timeout error is (the error that PayPal's notification server is facing). Just because you can go to that URL from the browser doesn't mean the server is configured correctly to reply to PayPal's payment notification server in a proper manner.
