    I have a 260 page pdf file that takes a little over thirty seconds to stamp. This means that a customer has to wait more than thirty seconds after making payment before they get redirected back to my site.

    I do understand that 260 pages is a lot, but is there any way to speed up stamping?

    Maybe by tweaking some code, using different options or different hosting?

    I'm using shared hosting with bluehost, btw.

    Thanks.

    If you have a good hosting it will take less than 3 seconds to stamp 260 pages. So that option is always open for you.

    Is the "Enable PDF File Encryption" checkbox checked in your PDF stamper settings? The encryption is CPU intensive so I would recommend turning that off if your are on a shared hosting.

    You can also try enabling caching in the PDF stamper. Open the "wp_pdf_stamp.php" file and find the following line of code:

    define('WP_PDF_STAMP_USE_CACHE', "0");

    Once you find it change it to the following to enable caching:

    define('WP_PDF_STAMP_USE_CACHE', "1");

    I didn't have pdf file encryption activated and enabling caching didn't help.

    It actually took a couple minutes to stamp the file today.

    I'm pretty sure this is a Bluehost issue (i.e., shared servers + peak traffic hours). I logged into my cpanel and discovered they are throttling my cpu.

    Did a little research and apparently they have a really bad reputation for this. There is a thread on warrior forum that is pages long. It's full of people that have left Bluehost...

    Questions:

    1. What type of hosting would you recommend so that I can stamp a 260 page pdf in 3 seconds? In an article on your main site I believe in motion hosting was the top pick?

    2. If Bluehost allows me to upgrade what specific features affect pdf stamping speed? I used to think bandwidth was the big one, but now I realize there is a lot more to it (i.e., cpu, ram, etc)

    Thanks for your help here.

    This article will summarize my recommendations:

    We have a dedicated server from InMotion which can do stuff pretty quick but I don't think you need a dedicated server just yet. A lot of these hosting companies offer VPS (virtual private server) which will probably do the job as long as there is enough CPU and RAM resource available for your account. You don't seem to be running out of RAM memory so you mainly need to focus on having the CPU power.

    How many CPU GHZ would I need to stamp 260 pages within 5s?

    Want to make sure I get the exact plan I need before migrating everything.

    Thats hard to say without testing it. What are your choices?

    Well, for now I am going to reduce the CPU load of my website through various methods.

    If that doesn't work I'll report back here with the exact VPS plans I am looking at.

    Thanks.

    My book has over 300 pages and it takes just 3-4 seconds to stamp it. It's very fast.
