Membership merges - multiple membership levels

Hi,

I have setup an online magazine site with one year 'online', 'print' and 'both' memberships.
My question is would it be possible for people who already have 'online' membership to add 'print' as well and vice versa. The problem is that getting/upgrading to 'both' membership will reset their 'one year' subscription they already had to start from day one, so in a way they will lose their money for the membership they've had prior to the upgrade. Another option I was thinking is to have additional scenario membership levels used only for upgrading from 'online' to 'both' and 'print' to 'both' with pricing that accommodates their already existing subscription.

Any suggestions??

When you use this feature a user can belong to multiple membership levels and will enjoy the benefit of all the levels the member belongs to.

I have a similar question - I have multiple memberships. Some allow people to access multiple pages for weekly classes, but I also have a membership that is for one article and one article only. When I test it, if in my own account my primary membership is set to the weekly classes, I can't access the article, even though that membership level is also ticked. But when I list the article membership level as my primary level, I can still access the classes, because they are ticked.

I'm guessing this isn't a real problem, I just hope I don't have a ton of people who are already signed up for classes buy the article and then not be able to access it because their primary membership is the classes...or will it automatically change to the article?

When you use the multiple membership level feature a member will have access to all the content that is allowed for the membership levels that are assigned to him. For example if Jon Does belongs to membership level A and mebership level B then he will see content accessible to levle A and B.

With that said, this is what you need to look out for... when configuring the content protection it is easy to get tangled up with all the category and individual post protection. Category protection takes precedence so for example if Post "X" belongs to category "Y" and you have protected this category then post "X" is only accessible to anyone who have access to category "Y". If you are trying to individually give access to post "X" its not going to work because its category is locked down. So, go over the protection scheme that you have and make sure you haven't made a similar mistake.

I don't have any category protections set; I do it all on individual post basis.

I *think* so but I'm not sure; yesterday I had to fiddle with a customer to see which membership level had to be primary to get ALL of them to work. Here's what made it finally work, which seems bizarre to me:

Membership Level A - Access to posts I have individually designated in category A. Category is not protected, I do it post by post

Membership Level C - Access to a single page that I have individually designated.

Membership Level B - Access to a single custom post type that I have individually designated.

Membership Level A was purchased first. Membership level B was purchased yesterday. Membership level C I manually set yesterday after Membership level B was purchased. They can only view all three membership levels if Membership Level C is the primary level.
