Hello! I'm building a photography site with a shop for purchasing prints of pictures in multiple sizes, etc. and I'm using the NextGen Gallery with hundreds of pictures.

How can I add a drop down or perhaps a couple with additional purchase options/variations for a particular photo that would then add the right price to my cart? Is there a different Nextgen template for this?

    Thanks!

Hi, You can use the variation control with the Nextgen gallery. The following post will explain how to do this more:

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you Ivy! That's a great resource. I have hundreds of pictures... from what I understand I would need to create hundreds of products? Can't I just create, for example, a product called "Photo Print" and have variations such as 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, etc. all with different prices and then apply that to a picture in NextGen?

Otherwise this could be a little too tedious :)

Let me know if you think that's possible with a tweak.

    Thanks!

This is only a test site, but it gives you an idea of what I'm trying to accomplish: http://testsite.utopiastudios.net/galleries/flowers

The product is the same for all photos, with the only difference being the photo itself as a reference from Nextgen. So the photo is not listed in eStore at all. Perhaps there's a way to pull the info from Nextgen and bring it into the cart along with the Product and variation?

    That would be very cool!

@darkmatter, This URL should answer your question:

    http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forum/topic/why-configure-every-product-separately-when-used-with-nextgen-gallery

I am going to add an option so you can configure a price and variation then apply that to all of your NextGen gallery pictures for people who do not care about the security of the Image.

@amin007, thank you! In my case I'm grossly watermarking all of the pics in question and reducing the resolution to a point of making the pics reasonably unusable.

When will we see this option made available? It would also be nice to be able to apply specific variations/prices to group of pictures, say within a particular gallery or based on categories, that way the process is automated. So for example, as soon as I upload a set of pictures within a particular category (based on the post category) or perhaps within a particular Album, the formatting of the Add to Cart options are automatically displayed if a box is checkmarked. Just an idea that would make the process much more streamlined, especially for those selling more than just a few pics.

    Again, thanks for the response.

@darkmatter, I did a little brainstorming on this and found a few obstacles so this is not going to be a very quick and easy implementation. I will implement something in the future but don't want you to be waiting on it for now. I have sent an email to you.

@Amin, I've been playing around with this a little and essentially, what I've done right now is make the purchaser enter or "confirm" the file name with the Collect Customer Input field, which carries on to the cart. I tried to add the code for the echo of the NGG image on line 127 of eStore_button_display_helper.php but that only rendered the text, not the result haha. Sorry, I'm not a coder. All it would seem to me is to allow that php function to call the name in question and add it in there then make the field invisible... just thoughts.

Amin, any further developments on the ability to port thumb/alttxt to the cart of a NGG pic? Thanks! All I have going for now is something like http://camelarae.com/galleries/i9-sports-gallery/i9-sports-2010-49ers

It would be nice not to have to make the purchaser copy/paste the name of the pic :)
