You can configure either a <strong>basic tax rate<\/strong> that applies to all orders or a <strong>regional tax<\/strong> rate based on the customer&#8217;s location.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"simpletoc-title\">Table of Contents<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"simpletoc-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#accessing-the-tax-settings\">Accessing the Tax Settings<\/a>\n\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#basic-tax\">Basic Tax<\/a>\n\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#tax-by-region\">Tax by Region<\/a>\n\n\n<ul><li>\n<a href=\"#how-it-works\">How It Works:<\/a>\n\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><a href=\"#stripe-automatic-tax-compatibility\">Stripe Automatic Tax Compatibility<\/a>\n\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#display-of-tax-amounts\">Display of Tax Amounts<\/a>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"accessing-the-tax-settings\">Accessing the Tax Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In your WordPress dashboard, go to:<br><strong>Simple Cart -> Settings -> Tax<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose whether to configure:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Basic Tax<\/strong> \u2013 applies the same tax rate to all purchases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tax by Region<\/strong> \u2013 applies different tax rates based on customer location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"basic-tax\">Basic Tax<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Basic Tax<\/strong> option lets you set a single tax percentage that is applied to the product price for all customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><br>If a product costs <strong>$10.00<\/strong> and the tax is set to <strong>10%<\/strong>, the tax amount will be <strong>$1.00<\/strong>, making the total <strong>$11.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The tax rate must be between <strong>0<\/strong> and <strong>100<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic tax is automatically calculated and displayed in the checkout, thank you page, and order details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tax-by-region\">Tax by Region<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Tax by Region<\/strong> feature lets you set different tax rates based on the customer\u2019s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Country<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>State<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>City<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following screenshot illustrates how to configure the Tax by Region feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tipsandtricks-hq.com\/ecommerce\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/simple-cart-tax-by-region-configuration-example-sc.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"217\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tipsandtricks-hq.com\/ecommerce\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/simple-cart-tax-by-region-configuration-example-sc.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tipsandtricks-hq.com\/ecommerce\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/simple-cart-tax-by-region-configuration-example-sc.png 500w, https:\/\/www.tipsandtricks-hq.com\/ecommerce\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/simple-cart-tax-by-region-configuration-example-sc-300x130.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-it-works\">How It Works:<\/h3>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enable <strong>Tax by Region<\/strong> in the <strong>Tax<\/strong> settings tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define one or more regions and set the tax percentage for each.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When enabled:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>Region selection field<\/strong> will appear in the cart on the cart page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customers <strong>must<\/strong> select a region before checkout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The tax percentage for the selected region will be applied to the product price.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong><br>When <strong>Tax by Region<\/strong> is enabled, the Basic Tax setting is ignored.
